I'm very disappointed with this shot. I know the sun was very bright and I shot at the wrong time of day. But the snow looks very contrasty and I'm not sure exactly why. This picture didn't turn out as I had envisioned. I used my 28-200mm lens with a polarizer filter and lens hood. Any ideas?

Your snow isn't nice and white because of the sky reflecting off it and the polarizer. Also, the angle of the sun and where you are positioned is why the snow has all that contrast to it. You are behind the shadows (for lack of better terminology. A better shot would be with the sun at your back instead of shooting into it. You might try playing with whitening up the snow to see if that helps a bit.
